knew it was like playing with fire . . . so how could he be upset that he had gotten burned ? well then tell me . . . tell you what . . . that you love me ! ( was he still waiting ? or had he accepted that it was all just bullshit, bullshit, bullshit ). truthfully he didn’t know, even now. climbing out of the bmw, platonic with a capital p’s rambling a distant echo as he catches sight of her . . . should’ve known that she’d be here, leading the pack with a plan that she’d force to make sense despite any disagreements he could voice. only when pulled from his nancy induced daze does he notice robin staring at him knowingly . . . he hated that look ( the one that told him they had been in his scrambled mind & knew exactly what thoughts were floating around up there ). ❛ give henderson his crap for me, yeah ? i’ll catch up. ❜ the backpack shoved in their direction despite the eye roll he was being met with, couldn’t go into this particular battle with robin at his side ( two against one hardly seemed fair ).
see you on the other side . . . shouldn’t be surprised that the other side wasn’t all that different from the hell they had been trapped in. easy to come home when a victory march played from the bleachers, it hadn’t ( for a split second there had been a surge of triumph only to be drowned by the four chimes that sealed their fate ). ❛ long time no see . . . ❜ an attempted joke falling flat. chasing nancy wheeler was like learning how to ride a bike, all scraped knees & bruised ego. & here he was, three years later . . . still plucking gravel from torn skin. there’s an awkwardness that squeezes his throat tight, pleasantries mumbled like they didn’t have to share the space with the weight of what happened in the past month. ❛ uh, yeah. totally . . . why wouldn’t we be ? ❜ runs a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture to occupy fidgeting digits ( like he hadn’t dropped a confession at her feet like some feral tom cat days prior ). had meant every word of it, but the timing had been off . . . a familiar mishap in their rocky path.
