I don’t think this confirms the jougan isn’t canon, I think it’ll just come later on. I could be wrong, but I’ll wait for a direct confirmation before giving up lol. Since Boruto got an upgraded sword & access to Momo’s power for the Mamushi arc, they probably won’t give him the jougan so quickly. & if so, it might just awaken without use or be used to just do one major thing.

But I do think it’s interesting that it’s mentioned in this same chapter that Boruto is ready to die now with no contingency plan to save himself & the eye is finally opened.

Jougan is called the pure eye, notice Boruto’s intentions are being described to also be pure (completely transparent = purity) It might be meeting conditions needed to activate it. If canon, it’s likely Boruto will come close to death again or something significant happens that awakens it. We still don’t know what material Sumire added to the sword, and if it’s Nue’s chakra (or even Shibai who was depicted with the jougan), that could be another condition being met that could lead to the awakening.

It was also pointed out by Momo that Boruto is using his abilities. The jougan was obviously never momo’s ability so it’s not necessarily being negated. This might also explain why Boruto doesn’t have veins popping out, bc it’s not his natural ability, it might work differently. (But we’ll see how things turn out!)

For me there are not two Borutos and he has not traveled to the future but through Momoshiki's ability he already knows everything that will happen and tries to change it. Because? The Boruto we see does not have the Jougan and he sensed it because he resorted to asking Code about him ten tails and to take him, if he were the boruto of the future he would not need Code's information to access the dimension where he is located. Being from the future, they should perfectly handle the jougan's abilities to find him himself in the past or present. (Don't give me your arguments that Jougan isn't Canon because of this and that), take it or ignore it.

This has been on my mind for a while now since I recently watched the last naruto movie. Many have noticed the similarities between Mitsuki and Toneri and have wondered if there is some connection between these two characters. It could just be a coincidence as many have said; I normally would say the same, but the fact that Toneri plays a big part in Boruto as well makes me think there is more to it. 

First of their similarities is the most obvious: their looks, with almost the same hairstyle and facial features 

Then there is the one thing that really makes me believe that there is something between these two: the moon

As we know Toneri’s clan is from the moon and that is where he lives and then there’s Mitsuki who is described as someone who follows the path of the moon.

Another fact that connects them: Mitsuki’s sage mode and Toneri’s Tenseigan mode which are both of similar color, similar form and both have a horn that grows on their forehead. 

Besides these similarities, there are other things that make me wonder about these two. We know it was Toneri that gave Boruto his Jougan eye because he saw the Earth’s destiny and entrusted Boruto to save it. We also know Orochimaru led Mitsuki to follow Boruto’s footsteps and have him become the sun that will light up Mitsuki’s path that’s darken by the moon because he alone can not do it (being an artificial being and all, he wants Mitsuki to learn how to think for himself like a normal human). I keep wondering why did Orochimaru  choose Boruto out of everyone. Boruto is the son of the Hokage. He is the villain that attacked the village and killed the third hokage. Yet he decided to risk sending his “son” to that same village. Why did he decide Boruto was the best choice? (and considering Mitsuki’s obvious affection for Boruto, it worked)

What I think is that somehow Orochimaru got in touch with Toneri (no matter how impossible it may seem, he is Orochimaru and I feel like he can do anything he wants) and Toneri told Orochimaru about what’s to come? In the last Naruto movie, the main Tenseigan was damaged so Toneri can’t use his own power. Maybe Orochimaru convinced him to lend some of his power for the new being he is creating (Mitsuki)? Toneri did use the power of Tenseigan to create puppets, so the power could be use on another being. Maybe that’s why Orochimaru had trouble helping Mitsuki’s body control such power (because it’s not a power he knows or is familiar about). So maybe he told Orochimaru to teach his  “son” to assist Boruto in his destiny and that’s why Orochimaru chose Boruto as the sun to help Mitsuki. This could be a reach because Mitsuki barely appears in the manga but in the anime it does make more sense.

It could also be that with the rocks that fell from the moon in the last Naruto movie, Orochimaru got a hold of some and got the dna from there. In the anime we see that Suitgetsu. Karen, and Jugo can go out various times so one of them could have gotten a sample of it (knowing or not knowing about Toneri and his Tenseigan power). and again, it being a power he doesn't know about, he couldn’t figure out how to get Mitsuki’s body to endure it.

Or I could be looking too much into something that is nothing and it’s just a coincidence.
