On this day in 1897, the Vienna Secession was founded. Gustav Klimt (pictured seated in the throne on the left here) was elected president of the Secession in March 1897 and served until 1899. (Vereinigung bildender Künstler Österreichs). On June14, 1905 Gustav Klimt and a few other artists seceded from the Vienna Secession due to differences of opinion over artistic concepts...the excesses and abuses of Modernism were already then apparent to Klimt. . . . . .
