Are you asking about Jorah? Ohhh where do I begin

So he started as just a male Byleth where I just made them twins but he became his own thing.

In universe, Jeralt and Sitri were expecting twins. The oldest was going to be named Ryea (to be not exactly the same as but in honor of Rhea whom both were close to at the time) and the other would be Byleth.

First born is Jorah, initially named Ryea, baby boy, extremely weak but alive. Not only got the name but inherited a major crest of Seiros. Initially, Rhea is quite pleased with this baby from two people she's close with and uses some of her power and the connection of her blood to try to help him be a little stronger. No one knew him being a little weak was the least of their problems.

Byleth birth situation occurs and suddenly Jeralt's wife is dead, his younger child is silent as hell but being doted on by Rhea while the other is ignored (when previously she seemed to find him quite delightful?) And Something is Wrong. So he jets with his children like canon.

Overwhelmed with two babies in an inn for the night, recovering from trauma and guilt and grief, he gets asked their names. He can't just tell them, Rhea is probably (somehow) looking for them (for his daughter more like) and he looks around for any ideas. Then he sees a menu and thinks fast

Ryea morphs to Rye and his daughter is redubbed Potato. To recover a bit he more often calls his daughter Tate but she actually likes being potato and the jokes about it are fun. She's not very emotive and goes with what she's told. The only one who seems to know what she's thinking is her brother. In physical contact, they can hear each other's thoughts, know their feelings. And he feels so so much.

He's full of questions, full of feelings and he's so much. And they need to do Merc work, they need to be on the road, they need to not ask too many questions, and he hates it. He runs off to find odd jobs wherever they're stationed. Eventually fully splits from his dad, offering to take his sister with (but knowing he can't force her) and he changes his name to Jorah, sick of having a name that feels like an afterthought. Jeralt is secretly relieved he's got something new, even if it takes adjusting.
