Happiest Birthday to Kim Namjoon: the man who knows no bounds to selflessness...

I’ve thought long and hard about how I’d want to wish this man a happy birthday. It felt important to express exactly what he’s evoked. Not in just me. But the endless inspiration he’s birthed into this world. I came to find that it was the overwhelming gratitude that floods any soul he’s ever touched to be the common factor.

He inspires appreciation for one’s self or the smallest things in this world. We see this so clearly with him and the boys. He encourages an evolution: to be better. To just keep trying. To not give up. But most of all. Through all of this. He teaches us to not be selfish.

Because he exists to help, it only means that those he pushes forward sees his unselfish act of giving more than receiving and is then moved to carry on his legacy.

So, to the man who continues to selflessly love and give; I wish you only the best because that is all you’ve ever gifted to this world. Even when you see your faults, I hope you know that it is those cracks in your otherwise flawless canvas that makes you even more beautiful than the heart of gold you possess.

 Maybe, learning English through F.R.I.E.N.D.S., ignoring the blood, sweat and tears while practising, and perhaps going against the wishes of your own parents in order to chase your dreams were all for a cause, a dream which was not so clear from the start. People say that dreaming big is hard, but following a hazy, unclear dream - which you are so passionate about that those hours of hard work seem like minutes, is harder. Leaving the plans bestowed upon you from birth, revolting against people’s conventional expectations and packing your bags to pursue something your heart desires, is harder. 

After training for the longest period of time, acting as the glue that binds the group together, ignoring one’s own hardships to watch out for the group and not getting any appreciation for it hurts. Pouring your heart out in the lyrics, practising dance until your vision is dizzy, rapping and singing till your throat burns, and still not getting any recognition for it, hurts even more.

Perhaps, we don’t realize how hard he works in order to be the Namjoon we see on stage. Perhaps we don’t show our love enough to convey to him that we love how deep and profound his lyrics are, how his words lighten a lamp in the darkest of nights, how passionately he dances in each performance and how we adore him for being our destruction monster. Kim Namjoon, thank you for reminding us to love ourselves when we felt like giving up ourselves, thank you, for being the best leader anyone could ask for.
