They’re forced together in Cali and have to pretend to be siblings but I genuinely think they think of themselves as roommates more than anything. They Do Not have the vibes of best friends or siblings, they tolerate each other At Most, and that’s only bc they’re the only ones in their friend group in Cali.

Will was literally more concerned about El lying to Mike about her being bullied than the fact that she was Actually Being Bullied right in front of him.

You know who Should’ve been El’s brother figure? Jonathan. Jonathan would actually be what El needed and their friendship and siblingism would’ve been amazing.

Something that pisses me off in s5 as a symptom of reducing Jonathan down to just Nancy's bf, is that they write Jane— Jon's like canonical step sister— to literally die in front of his eyes....but he only steps out and actually struggles against the military when they touch Nance ? Like in what world would he be totally fine sitting watching his little sister as she's about to succeed in k!lling herself but immediately throw caution to the wind and put up his dukes with the soldiers holding a gun to his head when they dare to... grab his ex gf's arm ? Literally that's all they do. They touch her arm

Like as a member of Jancy nation as much as I want to appreciate the buzz of that moment I can't because it makes me soooo mad, + more proof those writers didnt give two shits about Jane's relationships with any characters outside of Mike at all. They didn't even see her as a person by the end. She was also Jon's little sister & he would have fought for her damnit !!!!!!!!!!

i love willel and jonwill, but i love jonel just as equally. jonathan has so much experience with skittish/shy kids (will from lonnie and upside down) so you best believe he knows exactly how to treat el. he takes her out to experience everything she never got to as a kid, and will just sit with her for hours explaining whatever she has questions about socially wise. i really would’ve loved to see the byers brothers helping el become her own person and letting her grow into herself.

thinking about jonel thinking about them both having repressed anger being angry at the world that was never fair to them but they are both so kind and loving but when it gets to a point they can’t take it anymore they snap and they’re afraid of being a bad person (el is afraid that she’s a monster, jonathan is afraid of turning into his abusive dad) I love them so much jonel parallels are so important to me
