Comics Reading Update: August 19th, 2026
I'd taken a break from Marvel Unlimited for a while recently to get back into reading novels for a while, and do some of my comic reading from the local library and Hoopla app. I just recently remembered how much I had been enjoying the Jonathan Hickman Ultimate Marvel 2.0 story, so I borrowed the last volume of Ultimate Spider-Man (Vol. 4 "One Last Day") from Hoopla to get caught up where I left off.
I'm glad I checked this Comc Book Herald reading list today ( https://www.comicbookherald.com/the-complete-marvel-reading-order-guide/ultimate-marvel-universe-reading-order/new-marvel-ultimate-universe-2/ ) because it notes "Do not read any of the “Finale” one-shots until after you’ve read Ultimate Endgame below!" which I would totally not have assumed to be the case. Comics!
Anyway, I love this take on the Spider-man characters. I love the art by Marco Checchetto. I'm gonna miss this book. But maybe better to have it tie things up and lead into a big finale rather than stick around for years, losing steam.
Unrelated to anything, I was thinking the other day - as I sometimes do - about how I used to feel like I was much more up-to-date on what was going on in the big comics. And every time that occurs to me and I wonder what changed I always remember that I used to be a regular listener to the Wait What podcast with Graeme McMillan and Jeff Lester before they decided to finish up the podcast and devote that time and effort to other areas of their lives. I hope those guys are doing well. They were always my favorite people to listen to talking about comics, whether or not I agreed with them or had even read the comics in question.
Maybe someday I'll finally get around to reading along with their massive Fantastic Four and Judge Dredd read-throughs.
