you see there are two strategies that jonah adopts when dan comes home and he’s flipping out about something that he fucked up, or even like, didn’t manage things as well as they they could be managed - like he knew what the best possible outcomes and he still didn’t reach it.
these strategies are:
a) get dan in subspace pronto. get him listening, get his entire focus on jonah, get his brain out of politics and his work and into sex. sometimes dan needs his metaphorical cache cleared and he’s really not good at doing it himself so he needs jonah to say “enough. face the wall.” dan takes a rattling and stands there and stares at jonah’s badly painted wall and jonah’s breath in his ear fogs his brain, makes him forgot. he can’t see an inch in front of him with jonah’s teeth in his neck.
b) put dan on his bed and tell him how great he is, how great they are, how wonderful he looks and how much jonah is going to kiss him and touch him. dan’s usually still beating himself up by this part but jonah gets his mouth all over dan’s body, in the sensitive line of his neck and along the curve of his bicep and down the hills and valley of his ribs. jonah’s huge hands splay across dan’s hips, his fingers rolling dan’s nipples. jonah bites but not hard, and dan’s breath catches in his throat. despite that dan’s brain is trying to tell him how shitty he is, it can’t compete with jonah’s mouth extolling his virtues, like there’s no WAY shitty shit campaign managers get this, only GOOD campaign managers get this, and he’s REALLY getting this.

i definitely learned square dancing in PE but i'm from the part of southern california that was basically established by displaced southerners
there are apparently many weird pockets of interest across north america when it comes to square dancing??? i always just took it for granted that everyone learned how. like... y’know, soccer.
