PS CLASSICS, the label dedicated to the heritage of Broadway and American Popular Song, will present the new album from award-winning nightclub and concert artist JEFF HARNAR – I Know Things Now: My Life in Sondheim’s Words on CD and digital formats on Friday, June 17. The album boasts a 20-piece orchestra conducted by renowned jazz piano virtuoso Jon Weber (host of NPR’s “Piano Jazz”) and is produced by Bart Migal, with Ronald Thomas serving as executive producer.

I went to see Jon Weber play the piano in Bryant Park this afternoon. He is a Grammy-winning jazz musician who is going to be hosting a show called "Piano Jazz Rising Stars" which will be on NPR this January. He was great fun to watch, and interacted with the folks milling about, at one point riffing on "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" when he spotted a toddler dancing. He took a lot of requests, and for each one, was able to name the composer and rattle off a brief history of the tune. I walked up to grab a one of his cards, and he stopped, shook my hand, and asked what instrument I played (I don't know how he knew). When I told him the clarinet, he quoted Mozart's Clarinet Concerto a couple times while he played my request for Minor Swing (here's what it sounds like by my man Django Reinhardt). Though he said he forgot how it went, I liked his version better! Weber is a nice guy and an extraordinary musician-- definitely check out his show!
