There is only one person who I would let be Sherlock Holmes. By this, I mean something that requires just a bit of explanation.
I am an avid, borderline hyper fixated fan of every incarnation of Sherlock Holmes (were it not for the fact that hyped fixations do not tend to last for years). Given this, I obviously have twiddled in the idea of how I and the people in my life would fit into the Sherlockian-verse. I am always Sherlock- given that we’re talking about ACD Holmes and not the film Sherlocka as I would never call myself “sociopathic” or play a violin so heinously wrong. However, that is a different topic for a different passionate rant. Returning to the point, whether motivated by narcissism, wishful thinking, and/or just a hint of actual logic, I always end up being Sherlock in my imaginings- that is, until She arrived.
Now, every time I see any depiction of Holmes and Watson, I cannot help but grin and glimmer at how much She reminds me of the great detective. To many, she is intimidating and chaotic, but to me she is everything. Witty, eccentric, musical, strange, aloof, intelligent, determined, and of course, a bit socially awkward, she fits quite well into the shoes of Sherlock Holmes. I simply cannot reasonably ignore it.
I would never have expected myself to play Watson- grounded, serious, care-taking... and I have just realized how terribly intensely I have fallen into his shoes. I can do nothing more than gush at her majesty, her wit, her humor, and everything that the average person has inexplicably failed to see. Finally, obviously, I’ve dedicated an entire blog to telling our stories and praising her.
And after much more than a “bit of explanation,” let it be known that I, Cecil, would rather be Watson to absolutely no one else. Fortunately or unfortunately, I have been wrapped tightly and bindingly into the life of someone so intensely that I could not escape if I tried. Luckily, I plan only to stay in her life as long as she will let me.
P.s. Oh, and while BBC Sherlock was my gateway to Sherlock Holmes and thus my favorite series, it was an absolutely repulsive, ghastly queer-bait. If you do not understand why, you are likely either:
3) both and likely more than a bit ignorant
4) go read some meta before it is too late, you poor lost lamb
