Artist Dread Scott Organizes Reenactment Of 1811 Louisiana Slave Revolt : NPR https://nolachic.blog/2019/11/10/artist-dread-scott-organizes-reenactment-of-1811-louisiana-slave-revolt-npr/ Armed with pitchforks, cane knives, machetes and muskets, about 300 people dressed in period costumes, some on horseback, marched toward New Orleans as part of the second day of artist Dread Scott’s elaborate re-enactment of the 1811 German Coast slave revolt. The rebellion, considered the largest slave revolt in the nation’s history, ended with a slave-owner’s militia executing about two-dozen rebels, and placing their heads on poles as a warning to others.
