Every time I see fanart of Jon Sims I confuse him for John Gauis, every time I see fanart of John Gayis I think it’s Jon Sims.
I cannot win
“We were warm and shivering, and young and ancient, and alive.”

Jonah Magnus and John Gauis
OR
Regency era gay Scottish (I think he’s Scottish) man who thinks he is god and Māori God who is the destroyer of planets
You start HTN thinking it's set in some other far-flung star system and the author just likes memes, and then the saxophones just keep getting louder...
Oh.
Ah.
Listen, I know it’s not on the list of John Gaius’ Top Ten Worst Decisions, or even on the list of his top 50 worst decisions, but putting the Sixth House, i.e. The Library, i.e. the main hub of the Empire’s knowledge, on the planet closest to Dominicus and therefore most at risk of being wiped out in a solar flare, was perhaps not his brightest moment.

If the source is Jod’s power is the fact that he’s plugged into a Resurrection Beast as a battery, then I wonder if Harrow also shares some of that power by the fact that Gideon was unusually resilient in life, and she ate her (insert sex joke), and because she also (at least for a while) carried around a piece of Alecto’s soul inside of her.
I also wonder exactly what Harrow’s parents did when they killed 200 people to conceive her. Using that thanergy to manipulate Pelleamena’s ova on a genetic level to create a necromantic child—John Gauis called it a type of resurrection. And what Pelleamena did does resemble what John did when he murdered everyone on Earth and used the thanergy bloom to consume the Earth and then to create a body (Alecto) for what he could not consume while remaking both himself and Alecto. In a way what Pelleamena did was much cleaner because she did not have to create a body to hold the overflow of thanergy; she shaped all of it into something that would become a person, ultimately creating a necromancer with abilities far beyond a single person, perhaps the closest anyone might have to rival Jod’s. (Consider: how did Pelleamena learn to do this? I think the answer is knowledge passed down from Anastasia’s Lyctoral studies.)
John Gauis’s eyes were described as chthnoic in HtN.
Chthonic refers to the Greek deities associated with the Underworld (or agriculture). The Furies are considered chthonic Gods; Alecto was one of the Furies. John Gauis’s eyes were Alecto’s eyes originally. So his chthonic eyes came from the chthonic figure Alecto, who was entombed in the Ninth, the House most associated with the Underworld.
Ain’t it crazy that John Gaius was alive during the Charlie Kirk assassination?
