62 MORIARITY DRIVE FEATURED IN THE HOUR 

The Hour published a story covering a secluded gem of a property in the woods, located at 62 Moriarity Drive in Wilton, Connecticut. An homage to mid-century modernism, this property is exclusively listed with Halstead’s John Engel and Susan Engel for $1.78M. The home is packed with updates, including a high-tech security system, granite fireplaces and a solid mahogany back deck. This 4,000 square foot, 2-story house was built in 1966 by Bob Graf and underwent major renovations in the late 1980’s.

In 1966 Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” topped the Billboard charts, the Oscars aired in color for the first time and miniskirts took the fashion world by storm. During that time two architects of the New Canaan-based firm Harvard Five, Eliot Noyes and Bob Graf, helped define a new era of mid-century modernism. Together, they redesigned Mobil service stations bringing their sleek design style to the American masses. Graf also designed his home in 1966 located at 62 Moriarity Drive in Wilton. Today, the modernist structure has been completely restored to 21st century standards. Halstead’s John and Susan Engel are exclusively representing the sale.  

What is the best way to experience mid-century modernism in 2016? John and Susan lead a film tour of the home along with special guest Brian Lewis, Halstead’s 2015 top agent of the year. The film begins with Brian arriving to the hilltop home in a swanky Porsche and a book titled The Harvard Five in New Canaan in-hand. He muses on the private setting. The 2-acre property is surrounded by 150 acres of woods. The home itself is constructed with a glass curtain wall and natural elements such as stardust granite, Carpathian elm and rare rosewood. As Brian marvels up at the home, Susan appears across the pool in 60s-inspired attire. “62 Moriarity Drive has a lot of history, Brian,” she says. “So, if you’re going to fit in, you better get ready.” Brian’s button-down magically transforms into a posh, Don Draper-approved get-up. John meets them in the living room complete with a fireplace built into a stone wall and a dining area that seats up to 10. The entire space looks out to the lush greenery allowing ample natural light to stream in at all hours. The master suite is located below the living/dining area with direct access to the sleek pool. As they make themselves right at home on the patio, Brian points out: “this would be a popular destination for the Manhattan friends.”
