Sure, hit me with your volunteerism stick. What would I need to be doing?
I should have... like... said that, huh?
Essentially it’s going through blogs who ask to be put on the list. Make sure there’s no -ist things going on. If not, add them to the list.
If an anonymous asks for a blog to be added, say no. We don’t take requests for additions from anonymous sources. There are reasons blog owners may not want to be a part of the safe list, so the asks have to come from them.
Sometimes a blogger will ask for a sideblog to be added, and their main blog to be kept anonymous. If somebody wants a sideblog added, go through the vetting process for both blogs (because sometimes people use sideblogs to put on a false face). If they both check out, send a message to the sideblog asking them to verify what their main blog is. I always send from my sideblog (godswalkwithher), explain that I’m a mod, and ask for the info. If they can not verify the main blog or send a different answer, let them know that <person who sent ask> told us they wanted to be on the list and let them handle it from there.
The less fun stuff:
People will recommend blogs for blocking. Go through them, too. If you find anything -ist, let people know. (I’ve gotten terrible about this lately, but used to actually list stuff out: Nazi imagery, racism, sexism, ableism, antisemitism, etc.)
If you can’t find anything, state that, too. It could well be that as mods we don’t necessarily see something that might be offensive to somebody else. If they can point out what’s wrong and teach us in the process, that’s fabulous!
To note: These things tend to come in waves. A popular blog will link to the squad or something and suddenly there’s a huge influx. It happens.
Still think you’re up for it?
