We ❤️ 'Female Photographers Org: The Body Issue,' the first publication from a new female collective engaging topics of gender portrayal, body image and the media. ⠀ ⠀ Edited by @elisabethbiondi Text by @_emmalewis___⠀ ⠀ Biondi writes: "In the 1980s, voices started to emerge that criticized the depiction of women’s bodies in the male-dominated world of photography. How-to guides for photographing the nude body only had female models. Men were the photographers and the authors. Women were in front of the lens and depicted like butterflies in a lepidopterological study and male superiority in the field was never questioned." ⠀ ⠀ Founded in 2018 by @kirstenbecken and @veronikafaustmann & now comprised of 20 female photographers, the non-hierarchical collective @femalephotographersorg has set itself the task of creating a pictorial dialogue about bodies and their perception within the media.⠀ ⠀ The dust jacket folds out to a poster with detail from "Walking Tomato" from the series "Walking Objects" shot by @lauriesimmons in 1989.⠀ ⠀ 'The Body Issue' is the first joint publication of the group.
