very american but very insightful video but just about joann's but about private equity and the hellscape of 21st century economics
Not only is Joann’s closing more than half their stores, but my state is one of the ones being “hit the hardest”?!?!?
Very surreal experience entering Joann's and finding out all their sales fucking suck
went to Joann's while both our timelines could still overlap, and there was a big sign up front that said they have part time work available? you're hiring? now? now? Joann? when you say part time work do you just mean…?

Not to be a corporation shill but Joann's closing due to bankruptcy sucks. Yes it's still a major corporation. Yes it can be expensive. But for my small town, Joann's has been a huge resource for the arts. I see a lot of our elders getting their fabrics there or trying new things. I see little kids getting excited about whatever new project they're going to make. I myself always stop in Joann's when I'm in the area even if for no reason except to find inspiration.
Yes it's a store. Yes it's a product of capitalism. But in the bigger sense it feels that people are being robbed of art and connections. I always talk to the workers at Joann's about my projects. Some of these ladies make friendships this way. I even had a lady figure through my inference regarding my friend's passing in July who I meant and she offered me sympathies on his passing and that she's been offering his mother support which is a wonderful thing to hear.
Frankly I think regardless if your Joann's was in a big city or small town like mine, to see it go still sucks and we deserve better than corporations continuing to rob us of art and shove us into the internet only.
McCall Pattern Company M6988-$1.00+
Stretch Lace Knit Fabric-Caberne-$10.49/yard
Clary’s dress for this episode (3x19) was custom made by wardrobe- but that doesn't mean you can’t make an inexpensive version of your own! This pattern is meant for beginners! It requires slight modifications to the neckline, lengthening of the sleeve and and added flounce to the hem but those are fairly easy adjustments (we’d recommend a different pattern for more advanced sewers looking to be screen accurate, but this is perfect for beginners!). The fabric linked is similar to that used in Clary’s dress. You can use many different materials to line the dress, but suggest something like a stretch polyester.
