Real World Working - Day 1
Working for Crunchbutton currently and it is a hurry up and wait kind of job. Crunchbutton is a delivery service job, where you go on to the app and order food then it is delivered to you. It is mainly geared toward college students so there are still problems with it. Before I get to the complaints let me tell you about my experience thus far. I know I should be used to the whole hurry up and wait kind of job since I work in the film industry but this is way beyond that. It is basically a hurry up to get the food to the customer as fast as possible then wait for the next one. I work from 5-11 pm and there have been three order so far and it is 7:30 pm. However there is another person working tonight so he has gotten two orders and I have gotten one. The first order went fine even though I got a little lost at Cal Poly. But now I have just been walking around and hanging out waiting for another order to come in. I know I am getting paid but not enough for my time. $6 an hour is barely cutting it to count as worth the time to just sit around. I have videos to edit and other videos to film. Then again I could drive home but that would mean I would be farther away from the pick up restaurants. So my first experience aside let me lead into some of the opinions of the company so far. Crunchbutton like many other similar companies have a demographic they are going after. College students being theirs it makes it a little tough to get very much tips. Hopefully that will change but so far I am not to sure about how much in tips I am actually going to make. That leads me to something I have a slight problem with the company model. You can choose to pay cash to order your food with. That causes a problem if the driver does not have the cash to pay for the food like me. I live in a pretty much cashless world so when I went to pay for the food I used the card that the company gave me. See if Crunchbutton used the uber method I am going to call it then this would not be a problem at all. The only time cash would be exchanged is if the customer wanted to tip the driver. The uber method is the customer pays the service via card and the company pays the driver. That way the customer gets their service and the company and driver get paid. The great part about this is that it is a controlled service without the fumbling of exchanging money. Then again this is just my opinion but I believe it is a better model. So I am sitting around town hanging out and writing this just waiting. Thanks for reading. Jevan Vu
