okay so...which hyuna songs should I listen to first??
OH MY GOD YES PLEASE WELCOME TO MY (once) SECRET MUSICAL OBSESSION
I was first introduced to Hyuna when I accidentally clicked on the female version of âGangnam Styleâ, âOppa Is Just My Styleâ.
Intrigued--it had been a looooooong time since I had listened to k-pop of any kind--I searched for more, and came up with her duet as half of the group Trouble Maker, aptly named âTrouble Makerâ. The video has 75M views, and Iâm pretty sure at least 5M are just from me. I love this song. It is a wonderful song, though her part is fairly small.
I ran into a lot of more actually pop-type stuff which, while enjoyable, wasnât really my thing.
Then I found âChangeâ and, if I hadnât been bisexual before, I would have immediately become so, and when I say this, you must understand that I was equally enamored of her voice. It was epiphanal. Start there.
âRoll Deepâ is just a fucking trip from start to finish. Even without the music video, though you really want to watch the music video. Listen to the song first without looking at it, however, because otherwise youâll be too distracted to actually pay attention to the music. Trust me on this.
The awesome(st) thing about Hyuna is how versatile she is as an artist. Her rapping is flawless, but her singing voice is angelic. Need proof? Check out âTo My Boyfriendâ.
Feeling a little guilty about your appreciation regarding how, uh, in touch Hyuna is with her body? Make âRun & Runâ your next stop. (She cowrote this song, and also âTo My Boyfriendâ, and âHowâs This?â which I somehow havenât mentioned yet but is practically perfect in every way.)
Hyuna didnât write âRedâ, but you canât listen to Hyuna without listening to this. Itâs catchy as fuck, and the music video is...interesting. Fun! But strange. Youâll have mixed feelings about monkeys, and no, Iâm not explaining that.
Which brings us to her latest earworm, âLip & Hipâ, an unapologetic ode to her own body and how unafraid she is to put herself on display. Itâs very much an in-your-face challenge to tell her sheâs too sexy, that sheâs anything less than the fucking queen. âLip & Hipâ is also an ideal balance between her rapping and her singing. There is literally nothing I donât adore about this song.
Better still? Hyuna wrote that song on her own; thereâs no doubting the validity of the lyrics.
Okay, so I accidentally threw a lot at you. Because I want you to join me in my ongoing Hyuna-shaped breakdown, please have this convenient playlist of her music in the order I just suggested. <3
