Sorry to bother you I love your work and was wondering if you can give me your Opinion about Lena being adopted by Violet's family. As much as I like the idea of Lena being happy and part of a family I feel upset that basically Scrooge didnt keep his promise, since he promised her a place in HIS family. This feels to me like a cop out the writers used to keep the status quo the same.
Iâve seen this take from a lot of people and I have to say I donât agree at all, because I never wanted her to be part of Scroogeâs family. The general consensus seems to be âFuck Scrooge for not making good on his promiseâ where I come from a place of âActually fuck Scrooge in general and for most reasons, but also specifically Lena can do better.â This line of thinking comes from several places.
1. I did not spend the whole of season one thinking âGay? Gay? Was that Gay? Is Webby Gay? Thatâs a crush, right? Am I just reading into this too deeply because I am also Gay? Or Are We Really Doing This in a Disney cartoon? Finally? Really for Real?â for Lena to become Webbyâs sister or cousin or whatever. Juryâs still out on whether itâs Gay, but I have my fingers crossed.
2. I am sick to death of all problems being solved by Scrooge McDuck. If there hadnât been another option, obviously I would have been okay with it because it beats her living on the streets, but painting billionaire capitalist Scrooge as a hero 2019 is boring and tiresome and frankly more than a little gross and the acrobatics the writers have to pull to keep convincing us heâs sympathetic are just mind boggling. For a while I wondered if Poe might make an appearance as a father figure? Regardless, I did not want it to be Scrooge if it could at all be helped.
3. It turns out this is EXACTLY what we needed to pull Team Magic together as a cohesive unit, because Lena and Webby have a shared history (and, potentially, the beginning of something romantic? maybe?), Webby and Violet have hardcore nerd mode thirst for knowledge, and Lena and Violet haveâŚ..what? Friendship Hates Magic! left me nervous for the future because I wasnât convinced that was enough to solidify Lena and Violet as friends. They donât have a whole lot in common besides, well, Webby. I was afraid one of them would end up always feeling excluded, or the writing wouldnât be able to convince me they liked each other. But it turns out that if theyâre sisters and living together, that adds a whole new dynamic. Theyâll have their own inside jokes and shared experiences and they donât HAVE to have that much in common, because thatâs not where their bond comes from. Itâs very good and interesting and would be even better if we got to see it in the show :â):â)  :â)Â
