Life changing.
I like the concept put forwards in the Shakespeare parody of TPM, in which jar jar is smarter than he appears, and a bit manipulative, but is doing it for the sake of the gungan people ( he's not a sith lord or anything, just smarter and Faking the silly speech, and thinks humans are a bit stupid and condescending, and got banished for talk if about working together with the naboo). He does a lot of talking in asides where he explains his though process! :D
I will admit that Jar Jar the radical political agent is indeed quite intriguing :)Â
But here’s my two cents. I mean, I agree that Jar-Jar is smarter than he appears, but only in the sense that people just assume he’s dumb because he’s kinda bumbling and slightly gullible. I don’t think he’s putting on a “stupid act” and the “silly speech” is purely Gungan syntax, I mean, the boss speaks that way in canon, in multiple instances. It’s a legitimate expression of “basic” aka english, coherent and consistent, just different. It’s portrayed as comical but to be honest, linguistically speaking, I don’t think it’s any less legitimate.
I could get behind the idea that jar-jar has an agenda for the gungan people ultimately, but I don’t buy that he was pretending to be stupid or kissing up. I dunno in my headcanon he’s just a very genuine person who wants the best option for the gungans, the naboo, and the republic. I just think he’s a very pure person at his core who gets viciously taken advantage of. I think he serves as a narrative device for the vulnerable purity of the original republic’s goals.Â
I don’t know, I’m not really down with this whole “jar-jar was the evil puppet master the whole time” thing. Like, I read the theory and it’s very well thought out and fun to consider, but I don’t think so. I think Jar-Jar was one of the most genuinely good people in the whole galaxy and I think he was meant to represent the Republic’s innocents and overall good intent that got completely washed away in the Clone Wars.
What do you guys think?
oh my god they’re playing the obi-wan and satine love theme as jar-jar is chasing after queen julia oh mygod
