*AN: Such a long time no see, Ahgases! Since the Python comeback, I've tapped back into my roots and remembered what being an Ahgase was all about! Also, not gonna lie, for some reason, I wasn’t a huge Jinyoung fan prior to this because I always thought of him as a little cold, but after this comeback, I definitely understand now.
But I noticed new writing content hasn’t hit the market yet, so here’s some to feed y’all! This will be a multi-part series. (By the way, Jinyoung is a little reserved in this, and there are mentions of him needing a career boost, but just know in reality, he is thriving and living his best life—so try to pretend as you’re reading!)
The scent of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air as Y/N tied the straps of her apron behind her back, exhaling slowly before stepping out from the employee area. The morning rush had started, a familiar whirlwind of half-asleep customers, clattering cups, and the low hum of conversation.
She didn’t need to think much to get through the routine—her hands worked automatically, punching orders into the register, filling cups, sliding them across the counter with a practiced, almost mechanical efficiency.
“Medium Americano, no room for cream.” She didn’t even have to look up before reaching for the cup.
The man standing before her barely spoke—he never really did. He was one of those regulars who had been coming in for so long that he didn’t need to say his order anymore. Y/N barely remembered his voice, only ever catching murmured thanks or the occasional quiet nod.
She didn’t love this job, but she liked it. Liked the familiarity of it, the rhythm. It was predictable in a way that made life feel a little more manageable. And in a world where things were constantly shifting, that predictability was comforting.
Then, in a single conversation, that comfort was ripped away.
Her manager called her over as she finished wiping down a table, his expression hesitant.
She froze, fingers tightening slightly around the rag in her hand.
“What?”
“The rent is too high, and business hasn’t been good enough to keep up. The owners decided to shut down before it gets worse.”
The words didn’t quite sink in right away. This place wasn’t just a job—it was her stability, the thing that kept her going. And now it was slipping out from under her, just like that.
She forced herself to nod, even though there was a lump forming in her throat. “Okay.”
Her manager sighed. “I’d start looking for something else now, just in case.”
She nodded again, barely listening as he went on about severance and final paychecks. Her thoughts had already drifted ahead to the uncertainty stretching out before her.
That night, after an exhausting shift, she trudged home, craving nothing but sleep. But when she reached her apartment door, a crisp white notice was taped to it.
Her stomach twisted before she even read it.
Notice of Rent Adjustment.
Her fingers curled around the edges of the paper as she ripped it down, scanning the words quickly.
She stepped inside and let the notice drop onto the counter. The apartment was quiet, the kind of silence that made the walls feel smaller. She stood there for a long moment, staring down at the paper, her thoughts racing.
No job. Higher rent. No plan.
She tried to shake off the creeping dread, telling herself she’d figure something out. She always did. But as she went through the motions of her evening—heating up leftovers, absentmindedly scrolling on her phone, flipping through job listings she wasn’t qualified for—it became harder to ignore.
It felt like everything was unraveling at once, and no matter how tightly she tried to hold onto it, the threads kept slipping through her fingers.
By the time she finally drifted into a restless sleep, the anxiety had settled deep in her bones.
The next morning, still groggy from a night of tossing and turning, she went through the motions of getting ready for another shift. As she pulled on her shoes and grabbed her bag, she stopped by the mailbox out of habit, rifling through the usual stack of bills and advertisements.
One envelope stood out.
Thick paper. A professional seal.
She frowned as she tore it open, eyes scanning the contents.
It was from a PR company. A formal request for a meeting. A specific date and time. No explanation.
Her brows furrowed. This had to be a mistake.
But as she stared at the letter, seeing it was addressed to her specifically, she wondered what if anything did she have to lose?
