are useless in real life, well... sit down, folks, I got a story.

I started young. I was... 13 maybe? 12 at best when I started reading boys' love fanfics. Yaoi if you want to call it that, but I never really got into the deep end of boys going in the deep end, it was the fluffy stuff most of the time.

My big OTP used to be (and still is) Jin/Touya from Yu Yu Hakusho. I had (and still have) it bad for that Scots-Irish (let's call him Ulster, it makes my life easier) wind demon ginger.

One day my teacher puts me into the school spelling bee. Not the best thing for a girl with burgeoning anxiety issues. I worried about getting an easy word wrong in front of the whole school and getting laughed at. Plus, where would I sit?

I would up getting second place in a back and forth yo-yo game I still remember to this day. The reason for which is why I'm proud to say I ship.

My competitor went up to the podium for his word. Olfactory.

Oh shit, did my fourteen year old mind race under those hot lights as I stood there in my little pleated kilt, sweater vest, and saddle shoes. I had read that one in my favorite Jin/Touya fanfic (long since deleted, I've never been able to find it. If anyone else has read it, it's when Touya first joined up with the group.) where Jin had made Touya take a bath because he smelled. Touya said he did it not to offend Jin's olfactory senses. If this was my word, I thought, I'd have it made.

Well, it became my word. He got it wrong.

I will never forget that gasp when he did. Nor will I forget the rambunctious cheers when I got it right.

I might not have won, but that was the only time I got something right that he got wrong. I will remember that moment probably for as long as I live.
