jay never thought himself as the average human being. it makes him sound cocky, brimming with arrogance to his bonesâbut circumstances lead him to believe this. that he's a wandering enigma that cannot be tamed, that there's no one out there who could bring him down. one day, he'd explode on a stage like a bright supernova; a fitting end to the chaotic force he makes himself out to be. so, he shouldn't have expected anyone to be able to handle him, to be able to hold him, to be able to love him, when his personality is too vivacious and vigorous to be contained by someone.
he's too unserious, he's too much, he's too chaotic. time and time again, a new person comes to a specific understanding about jay; his feelings aren't real, his feelings aren't enough, his feelings are a mistake. and now, it's happening all over againâbut what was jay expecting? he should've known, really, that he'd never be able to achieve that type of blissful happiness. it's not like jay is blind and oblivious, he knows how he's perceived, even if he continues with his day-to-day as if it doesn't bother him. but what else can he do? if he ruminates in it for longer than a minute, he'd start feeling sadâbut he's running out of options.
there's a particular sense of dread, whenever jay spares a glance into the mirrors in the training room he'd spend so much time in. his long hair, that peeks out against his neck. his sharper jawline, that he can see the outlines of. his broader shoulders, that's far from dainty and soft. the nonexistent curves in his silhouette, too. every little thing, reflected in the mirrors each dayâlately, it makes his stomach churn. he'd never doubted his own identity, never wanted to be anyone else but himself; but sometimes, he'd wish... that his body, or his very selfâwould be someone more worthy of the affection he doesn't allow himself to admit he craves so desperately.
a heart that's already broken shouldn't be able to break again, but it's jay's fault for picking and prodding at the cavity in the middle of his chest. it grows, and grows, and he feels it in his entire soulâand there's only so many things he can do as a distraction. training helps, but he forgets to eat. practicing helps, but he forgets to sleep. he can't bring it within himself to care thoughâhe'd never particularly gave a shit about his own body, and right now he wants nothing more than to let it crumble under the weight of his own careless actions and whatever else the world decides to throw at him. even after a series of complicated events, there is no escape.
still, he tries. on nights when no one will drive him home, where he only has his legs to take him somewhere foreign or familiarâhe'd like a moment of reprieve. he'd turn off the gps tracker in his phone, and just wander, headphones stuck to his ears like glue as he loses himself into his chosen playlist of heartbreaks and delusions. whatever, he thinks to himself. maybe he can fuck himself up for good tonight.
he doesn't know whether it's his worn-out body calling for help, or a traitorous part of his brain telling him to confront his demons throughout all thisâbut he ends up somewhere familiar, a quaint restaurant long passed its busy hours. he almost laughs, at the irony of it all, at the ridiculousness of his situation. it could also be his starving stomach, but he doubts that, he'd ignored it for too long that he can't feel his hunger anymore. it's funny, though, that by trying to look for a moment of freedom from his crazy and inescapable woes, he'd run straight into a tight knot in his past.
but jay is tired, he'd gone about most of his day low on energy and physical resources. his eyes sting, with phantom tears he refuses to let run down his cheeks. his eyebags must be worse. he must look like utter shit, but that's exactly when @jindallaebe comes out. another reminder of the fact that throughout all this, jay is the common denominatorâthat jay is the problem, that he'd never be able to make anyone as happy as jindallae seems to be currently ( as he's heard from the grapevine, that is ). just like with every memory that he wants to forget, he remembers when jindallae started acting cold towards him too, a sudden shift in demeanor that's more like whiplash than anything else.
jindallae probably hates himâor worse, doesn't give a fuck about jay anymore in the first place. but he still smiles, waving a little to the other with a short laugh. "oh hey, late night?" he asks, casually, like he hasn't been walking on eggshells. if there's anything jay can do, is be friendly even when he knows the other party doesn't care about him in this instance. to jay, no matter how badly things endedâit's hard for him to stop caring; he never moves on in any traditional sense.
"well, you look pretty content!" jay comments, as if he hadn't been walking about trying to find something to destroy himself. "i've heard business is booming, but you've always been good at that... marketing... promoting... thing!" he laughs, again, because that's his default reaction to most things, even if there's a lump in his throat he can't get rid of. he doesn't know if jindallae remembersâthen again, jindallae doesn't care. not anymore, jay thinks.
"i was kinda wandering... i think i wandered too far?" he hums, looking up at the sky as if there's a map in the stars above. "i'll get out of your hair, though. you're closing up, right?" he smilesâit doesn't feel easy, it feels contorted somehow. even though he can't see himself, nor does he want to. "good to see you... happier." happier than when you were with me, jay doesn't add.
