Jim Duff presents: More Than Love
Jim Duff Finds Quiet Strength on More Than Love
The Cincinnati songwriter turns fatherhood, separation, faith, and resilience into an intimate new project.
Jim Duff’s More Than Love is shaped by the kind of reflection that arrives when songwriting becomes a way to process life rather than decorate it. Drawing from folk, Americana, and country traditions, the project places fatherhood, distance, faith, and resilience at its center. As a new father of a little girl myself, I can totally relate to the feeling, and the unique dynamics of juggling fatherhood with music.
The song is sweet and restrained. Built around piano, bass, and acoustic guitar, all performed by Duff. “More Than Love” leaves plenty of room for its emotional weight to settle. Inspired by separation from his newborn and oldest son, the song has a truly heartfelt twist, with each instrument serving its purpose not only musically, but also emotionally.
After more than three decades of songwriting, and while continuing treatment following stage four cancer, Duff approaches these songs with clarity rather than sentimentality, using music as a powerful tool for personal storytelling.
"More Than Love" is ultimately a soothing and emotionally driving ballad, which highlights the humanity behind the songwriting. It finds meaning in small moments, allowing family, perseverance, and quiet reflection to guide the music with a steady sense of purpose.
