Canonically Siriusâ friendship with James extends to Lily and the tree of them are very close friends, thatâs where the ship comes from. Personally, I never came across someone who ships Lilypad independent of Jilypad.
To me it seems like a natural progression, that Siriusâ love for James would blur into his love for Lily. Itâs your classic love triangle where the tension between the two end points gets resolved.
I personally think Sirius and Lily would have great chemistry within this dynamic but I understand, that thatâs not your cup of tea, considering your dislike of Lily and James as characters and Iâm not trying to convert you into a Lilypad shipper or anything but your strong dismissal of the ship seemed quite unfounded when youâre usually very articulate and insightful.
Your last point is absurd to me. It honestly just sounds like youâre saying that because I didnât give you the answer you wanted to hear.
Loving your best friendâs partner very much does not automatically mean you want to sleep with them. And loving your friendâs partner partly as an extension of the love you have for your friend does not mean that the nature of that affection is identical either. Again, none of this logically implies sexual attraction.
I also donât really see what Sirius would actually find in Lily romantically when, canonically, most of his relationship with her seems to exist through James. I don't think Sirius and Lily having good chemistry is an inherently impossible interpretation, but there simply isn't enough canon there for me to see this ânatural progressionâ you're talking about.
And honestly, I think this is where the love-triangle analogy falls apart for me. A love triangle isn't created just because two people love the same person in different ways and are very close to each other. You need an actual romantic or sexual tension between those people, and I don't see that in canon.
If James and Lily broke up or divorced, I genuinely don't think Sirius would suddenly maintain this profound independent relationship with Lily. I suspect he'd see her occasionally because she's still James's ex and the mother of his child or whatever, but I don't think he'd be going out of his way to maintain a friendship with her completely independently of James. His primary attachment is to James, and Lily is someone he comes to love and care about partly because she is important to James.
And that's not lesser or less meaningful! Friendship is allowed to be friendship. Sirius can love Lily deeply without that love needing to âblurâ into romantic attraction. I actually find that relationship much more interesting when you allow the different forms of love to remain different rather than assuming that enough affection between a man and a woman must eventually resolve itself into wanting to fuck each other.
