We Can Make It Work
Lily sat propped up against the headboard, paperwork on her lap as she went through it all, a cup of peppermint tea in her hands. The noises of the street came in through the window and she sighed, stretching her back before looking over at the window. “James, are you okay?” She asked, moving the paperwork onto the bed.
James had just winced from his position by the window, his hand flying to the middle of his forehead as a spark of pain shot through it. He’d been getting migraines for a few years now, the looming stress of the war affecting him. The jolt of pain was so strong he had to close his eyes, only just hearing Lily’s voice.
“You should really go to a healer, Jamie.” Lily said, putting down her tea and walking over to him. She placed a hand on his arm, looking up at him. She frowned for a moment before pulling out her wand and casting a soothing charm over him to help. “You should talk to Sirius about it.”
“It’s okay.” He said softly, though his head was still throbbing a little. He automatically leaned into her touch, always drawn to her. He felt a little odd, unstable on his feet. He forced a soft smile on his lips for her benefit, his eyes opening a touch to look into hers. “I’ll be alright.”
Lily sighed, moving to place her hands on either side of his face. She smiled, brushing her thumb against the edge of his mouth up his cheek. “I know you will.” She said softly, “You’ll probably feel better once we eat, darling. Let’s leave the bed for once.” She smiled and reached up, pressing a soft kiss against his lips. “Get dressed.”
“As you wish.” He smiled, a true smile this time. He leaned down to kiss her again, his hands moving to cup both of her cheeks as he did so, tenderly stroking his thumb over her cheekbone. “What do you fancy?” He asked as he stepped away from her, moving to change into something a little more weather appropriate than the thin jumper and jogging bottoms he was currently wearing.
“I’ve been trying to drag you to that indian takeaway for the past year.” Lily said, taking off her shirt and pulling on jeans and a jumper. “Maybe we’ll make it before you… Before you have to get back to London.” She said, as she pulled on her boots and grabbed her hat and coat.
“Don’t remind me that I have to go.” James mumbled quietly, lacing up his own boots. It hurt him everytime he had to leave her here, going back to a life without her in it. He wrapped a scarf around his neck before getting to his feet, having perched on the end of Lily’s bed. “I hate leaving you here.”
“We are not having this conversation.” Lily said, grabbing her purse and shoving it into her pocket, she grabbed her keys and headed to the door. “Come on.” She said, reaching her hand out to him as they made their way out of the small apartment block.
