That he, despite his own despair and grief at the knowledge of the coming death of his closest friend, despite his own repulsion to even acknowledge it at all, he helps Blake accept his own death, say what he needs to say, sort out his last wishes?

That he composes himself to be Blake's stable anchor throughout that moment? Doing his best to make Blake's last moments as comfortable as he can manage, holding his hand tightly and calming him? Offering Blake a clear outline of their mission, giving him clarity despite the horrifying lack of it for himself?

How Schofield's experience shows in this endeavor, this exhausitve history of his loss?

Thinking about this again bc i’m struck with the amount of love that radiates from this film when you read it as something Blake wrote--Schofield’s characterization (especially after Blake’s death) being Blake’s specific choice, meaning we’re seeing Schofield as Blake saw him and loving him as Blake did.

Also to think of the film as not merely a reversal of roles, but Blake’s active reimagination of what Schofield would have done. And the ending as one that Blake wishes to give Sco.

The way this makes me think about Blake guiding Sco back home within the story, commemorating him that way, and wishing Sco could have actually lived it. And just. The complete trust he has in Sco to believe he would have carried on with the mission, that he would have succeeded. The sheer love behind it all.
