In a small room of House of Blues San Diego, I witnessed one of the best performances I’ve seen in a while! Judith Hill walked on stage looking beautiful in a long black romper, immediately sat behind her keyboard, and began her show singing Jackson’s Five I’ll Be There. Following I’ll Be There was one of my favorite songs of all times, and a James Taylor classic You’ve Got A Friend.  Beautiful Life was the first Judith Hill original of the night, starting with a beautiful piano version of the song, but then she picked up the pace, and made us all Dance!

Judith mentioned her experience as a contestant on the hit reality show The Voice (Season 4), and introduced the next song which she performed on the show. Now… I have to say, this was my favorite moment of the night! The room was quiet as she sang the beginning of Feeling Good a capella, joined after by her band for the rest of this beautiful cover. Timing and emotion are extremely important to sing this song successfully, and Judith was impeccable. Being a Nina Simone fan, I have to say she made her proud. It was definitely one of the most memorable moments of the night!

Judith not only showed her vocal, and songwriting skills, but showed she is a unique and extremely dynamic artist! This night was a fusion of soul/pop/R&B/funk even a little bit of rap! WHAT?! Judith picked up the pace and got the crowd moving with some of her original songs like Abracadabra and My People. 

The night was full of amazing moments! Judith payed tribute to the legend Michael Jackson by singing a stunning version of The Way You Make Me Feel, which was both exciting and emotional since she had the amazing opportunity to work with Michael before his passing.

BUT! The night didn’t end there! Judith felt the Christmas spirit, changed it up, and returned to the keyboard to sing Stevie Wonder’s Some Day At Christmas followed by a STUNNING original song Till The End. 

Judith Hill Live is an experience that any music lover MUST have! Judith ended the night with an upbeat version of Beautiful Life and after we all thought the show was over, she came back to sing Desperation (from the film Twenty Feet From Stardom).

It was truly a magical night. Judith Hill is not only extremely talented, but has a beautiful personality. She was approachable, humble, and sweet. If you have the chance to experience Judith Hill Live, don’t miss it! It is truly a unique and amazing experience!
