I want desire to become indifference.

I want any thoughts of you to be fleeting.

I want my late nights to be spent in friendship and laughter,

not alone with my thoughts of ‘What if’.

I want the butterflies in my stomach to be Monarchs that migrate 3000 miles south and never flutter back home.

I want to see your hand reach for her and not feel as though that same hand, with its nimble fingers, has twisted my stomach into knots.

I want reality to extinguish the fire that consumes me when you enter a room.

I want to throw out the pressed flower that I kept to remind me of the days when you used to care.

I want to erase the memory of every book you said I ‘had to read’.

I want to dream of running away from you instead of running into your open arms. I want to forget the sound of your bell-like laughter.

I want to see a man in a black pea-coat and not have my heart jump into my throat because it thinks he’s you. I want my eyes to stop betraying me as they eagerly scan a crowded room searching for you.

I want to listen to my favorite song without this feeling of sick nostalgia for that time I feel asleep with my head on your shoulder.

I want my throat not to tighten and my mouth not to dry out at the thought of finally leaving you behind.

I want my fingers not to itch for contact with yours when we’re alone.
