Jesse has a gift for you!  It's materia!  Healing materia?  Oh no, she gave that to Cloud.  What you're getting is a very special kind called Enemy Skill!  It grants you a new ability every time, you um, get smacked by a monster in a way you haven't been before.  It's super useful!  Once, y'know...  you survive a beatdown from a giant evil house...

One of my best-received advent calendars was the year of Reeve's evil ugly sweater knitting machine.  Back then Jesse, Biggs, and Wedge were just throwaway cannon fodder.  I'm not sure if I've ever painted them for my calendars...  The Remake fleshed them out so much, I feel guilty for never paying them any attention!  Soooo as part of my "apology", I made sure they all got sweaters!
