It was an understatement to say Angel was lost in her own little world in this grand room with so many people. Truth be told, she was having a blast. But with the amount of cocaine and tequila in her system, it was kind of hard not to have fun. She moved around freely from place to place, sometimes stopping to appreciate the music everyone seemed to talk and gamble over, which was a shame. It felt good to stop and sway with her eyes closed, not caring who watched her.
And when the song ended, Angel opened her eyes and turned to walk off, to watch people throw their money away on pointless games. Immediately, she bumped into someone. “Fuck, sorry,” She said, stopping to see who it was. She froze. A thought came to her in a single, sobering moment that lasted no longer than a second or two.
It’s her.
They’d met briefly a few times across town, each time Angel seemed to get more lost and flustered in her words. This time, with the way Jess looked tonight, was no better. And the way she looked tonight- there wasn’t strong enough a word for how beautiful she looked. Shit, Angel thought to herself and tried to pull herself together. This wasn’t who she was. People didn’t have the ability to shake her anymore, so she thought. And she felt embarrassed, stupid even, for having such a schoolgirl crush on anyone but especially Jess, something Angel thought she outgrew long ago.
“I um- hi,” Angel said, nervously chuckling a little.
