Friends by Nature || Haylee & Jess
The wooden floorboard of Haylee Stoner’s apartment creaked as she paced back and forth, from her bedroom to her living room. It was seven o’ clock, and she was probably going to be late meeting Jess. The two had planned on going on a camping trip, something that Haylee hadn’t done in years, so she was constantly running back and forth remembering random things she should bring. She zipped up her hiking backpack, and stared at him feeling content with how she stuffed all her belongings. She then slapped her head with the flat of her palm. “My toothbrush!” She mumbled. How could she almost forget a thing she used daily. She retrieved it from her bathroom, and stuffed it into one of the side pockets in her backpack.
She breathed heavily as she looked at herself in the mirror. She was going to be late, but she couldn’t miss anything they needed, they were going to be in Elysium wilderness, where the survival needs would be way out of the way if they needed it. She pulled out her fully charged cellphone and texted her friend.
Jess! I’m almost ready, I’ll be over there in fifteen minutes. See you then!
P.S. You better not be sleeping, or I’ll break into your house and jump on your bed until you wake up. Haha.
Jess was one of the few people Haylee felt like she could be herself around with no judgment. He understood her anti-socialness, her sarcasm, her humor, even her hyperness, the only other person who understood her fully like this, was her brother Robert. Now that he was gone, all she had was Jess, and that made her a little insecure. What if he left her? She would be left with no voice of reason. She shook her head at the thought of losing her friend. That wouldn’t happen, after all the two were going to have an awesome time camping.
She picked up her giant hiking backpack, and swung it over her shoulders, and made her way to Jess’s house. He didn’t live far from her only three blocks. As she walked down the early morning streets she obtained inquisitive glares. Business suits, and cups of coffees fluttered the streets, and there she was in short demin shorts, a loose fitted tee tied in a knot in the side, hiking boots, and giant backpack on her back. She lowered her sunglasses from her head to her eyes, blocking the stares from piercing into her.Â
Upon arriving at Jess’s house she dropped the heavy load from her back and onto her friends doorstep. She inhaled a deep breath, she really should get used to the heavy load, she would be carrying it for the duration of the trip. She pressed the doorbell, and leaned up against wall aside the door. Haylee tapped her foot in anticipation, Jess better not have been sleeping still. She had rushed to make their seven forty-five call time.Â
