Last night’s amazing sunset from Sorel Point after the afternoon’s stormy weather. Yesterday I met up with a new friend. Someone I met on a Facebook group for solo women travellers. She had come all the way from Kansas, USA to visit the Channel Islands so I played tour guide for the evening. I’m usually so nervous about meeting new people and will often avoid it but we had a great time! The White House also known as Le Don Hilton (meaning ‘a gift from the Hilton family). A Jersey landmark and one of the most photographed places on the island (I reckon!). It was originally a powder magazine i.e. a place to store gunpowder. A lady called Mary Best used it as a refuge with her children during a smallpox outbreak and now you can rent it from the National Trust for Jersey although they describe it as a ‘stone tent’ as it has minimal facilities (no toilets!). It’s an iconic building that is featured in art and souvenirs on the island despite not being that interesting.
