The ginger haired man, who was holding tightly onto the bundle in his arms, briefly looked at the silently crying woman, who shared the same transport as he. Under better circumstances, Obi-Wan would not allowed Padme to travel at all, not after giving birth to Luke, who was resting in his arms, and Leia, who was held by her mother. 

The two children were deeply asleep. It was a small mercy, but better than nothing.

“Tell me again, where we are going,” requested the senator.

Out of instinct, the former Jedi rearranged his hold onto Luke, Anakin’s son. But Anakin was dead now, replaced by a creature of the dark, who called himself Darth Vader. Both, Luke and Leia, were the only things that remained of their shared husband.

“Tatooine,” he said, surprised that his voice was steady. It was probably due to the sleeping newborn that he was so calm. In truth, his mind was racing. How could his former Padawan and current lover have done such a thing? It did not make any sense.

“Tatooine? Why this planet?” her tears had mostly stopped, though she did not look any better. 

“It is the last place he will want to step foot onto.”

Padme nodded in understanding and turned her red rimmed eyes back to the face of her sleeping daughter. Something told her, that the female newborn would look like her, but have her biological father’s persona. It would be quite the other way around with Luke. How Padme knew this, was beyond her, but she accepted it nevertheless. 

The brown haired woman took a deep breath and slide closer towards the ginger haired man, until their sides were touching and she was able to rest her head onto his shoulder. Not even a second later, and his head came to rest in top of hers in a comforting manner. Padme closed her eyes, knowing that she was saved and loved. In all honesty, she would not know what to do, without Obi-Wan at her side. She probably would have died.

Padme was sitting in front of the small hut, she and the remains of her beloved family now inhabited. She was looking at the horizon, deep in thought. She didn’t notice how the twin suns were setting or how quick the temperature dropped. Nor did she notice that she was joined by another person, until a warm brown robe was draped over her shoulder. Startled, she looked up, only to find herself gazing into understanding and compassionate blue-green eyes.

Obi-Wan sat down next to her. “The twins are asleep,” he said while allowing her to snuggle up close.

“You have a way with children,” she commented and lovingly peeked his cheek. He had shaved because of multiple reasons. One, he did not want to be recognized and two, Luke kept on tugging on his facial hair. Padme did not mind, quite the opposite actually. He looked much younger and way more cheeky without the beard.

The former Jedi hummed in agreement. He looked tired and worn. The former Senator suddenly felt guilty. She had not  been much of a help the last few days. Actually, it had always been Obi-Wan, who stood up every two hours in the night to feed the twins and it was also Obi-Wan, who took care of pretty much anything else. Sometimes, she had done a chore in the house, but most of the work, was done by her partner. 

As if sensing her thoughts, the ginger haired male tightened his arm. He squeezed her shoulder in a comforting manner and kissed her hair. “All will be well, dear. I know it.” And who was Padme to distrust him.

The Force had told Obi-Wan that everything would get better again, but never would the ginger haired Jedi have expected for things to go this way.

It was quite a few days after they had landed on the desert planet, when the four of them got a visitor. Anakin Skywalker in the flash, had come walking over the sand dunes, his features full of worry and his eyes lightening up, upon spotting therm. Obi-Wan had not wasted a second and activated his lightsaber, while protectively standing himself between his family and the traitor. It had taken all of his willpower and the guidance of the Force, to not jump into action. Instead, they had listened to what the blonde had to say. What he DID say, surprised them.

It sounded unbelievable and neither Padme, nor Obi-Wan would have believed a word, hadn’t it been for a holo transmission towards the Council chambers. Now that the three adults were sitting in the living room of the small hut, silence reigned. Both Obi-Wan and Padme felt betrayed, which is why they had yet to hand one of the children over to their rightful father.

“I cannot believe you actually thought be capable of such things,” Anakin sounded hurt.

“I cannot believe you did this to us,” countered Padme. She was angry at being betrayed. She had suffered a lot those last few days and so had Obi-Wan, but the ginger haired Jedi was better at hiding and burying such feelings. He had learnt that early in his apprenticeship with Qui-Gon. 

“I’m sorry,” mumbled Anakin. He was averting his partners’ eyes, yet his own gaze was darting towards the two babies again and again. 

Obi-Wan sighed and handed Luke over to Padme. “You have to see things from our point of view… how did you feel after the Hardeen incident?”

Anakin closed his eyes and really, it was all the answer Obi-Wan needed,

“I’m sorry,” he repeated and this time he actually meant it.

Padme and Obi-Wan shared a look. “Well, at least our fears were wrong. We didn’t want to believe that you were capable of killing younglings.”
