Honestly yeah people seem to think that ‘asshole character = author’s morality’ when really their beef is with...awful aspects of the show seen through a 2020 lens. I’m not saying to gloss over it but rather to understand that- that’s really kind of how edgy internet humor was at that time. Obviously we know much better now, though I think some people missed the memo.

I’ve stated it before I don’t really trust or endorse Ross or have much of an interest in his other works. I can tell a lot of effort was put into it- I don’t really care what he does as long as he doesn’t repeat gross shit again. Calling him out for 2007 shit is...really fuckin weird lets be real. It’s okay not to like him or fm, making a fuss out of the really old stuff now is a waste of time. Just curate your feed and go

hlvrai fandom itself isn’t the problem, though there is a huge issue with overreacting to extreme. That could be said of any fandom, but it’s especially bad there.

Freeman’s Mind is basically Half-Life 1 where Gordon Freeman’s thoughts are kinda rancid and rude all throughout the Black Mesa Incident. He’s neurotic, has a huge ego, and dabbles in crime. There’s a lot of yelling, tasteless rants and horrible 2005-era humor/mindset.

Basically he’s a terrible person, never changes in canon (yet?) and it’s funny to watch him suffer and struggle getting through the game bc of the wild crap he says/thinks

He is fairly intelligent (canon MIT education and doctorate and all that), bilingual, knows his stuff, but comes off as awkward and overall AWFUL in interactions with people who aren’t actively trying to kill him. He mentions getting maced and tased a few times. 

Pretty much everything in Freeman’s Mind follows the same events as Half-Life 1- except that:

- there’s a minor cut level/dlc called Half-Life: Uplink

- and there’s some godmode/cheats enabled for Freemind to get into places you normally cannot do in-game without cheats (and behind the scenes stuff to film it easier)

other stuff:

The eyepatch was canon for like 1 episode where he talks like a pirate. 

Him losing an eye is entriely fanon. He does have canon injuries but they’re relatively minor, like facial lacerations and his ear getting nicked.

funny enough he does have his own wikipedia page, theres probably other sites that have more details on it

If you wanna ship them I guess I. dont... really mind???? Everyone in the story are all full grown adults and not related by blood/adoption (aside from the obvious like Vances and Coolattas). The Freemen are unrelated look-alikes + parallel selves or something idk its like the clone argument all over again

Just no illegal/taboo shit please (check my dni list) and tag ships appropriately for people who wanna blacklist/filter them

If people want a specific tag uh. Maybe gordoncule ??? lmao

Please no discourse either. I’m tired and don’t want to hear it. If certain regular ships make you uncomfortable, then it makes you uncomfortable, there’s no need to come up with reasons- just blacklist/filter/block and go and dont harrass people on anon
