Whumpril Day 10 - Migraine
Story under the cut
Blessing had never felt more miserable in her life. Migraines tend to do that to you.
She saw the tell-tale flashes in her vision earlier that morning, and the second she told her girlfriend, Rowan, she immediately got some painkillers into her and told her to lie down.
Apparently, the sooner you fall asleep, the sooner the migraine will go away. But Blessing couldn’t exactly sleep with her thoughts spiralling away in her head. It took half an hour of lying on the couch, a vice tightening around her skull, before Rowan came to check on her. She raised her eyebrows when she saw that Blessing was still awake.
“Blessing? Are you having trouble sleeping, mi sol?” she asked her. She sat down on the couch next to her and gently stroked her forehead. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Blessing sighed quietly. Her girlfriend’s soft touch never failed to cheer her up, but now it just made her feelings of guilt all the more prominent.
“It’s just the headache. Doesn’t exactly help with sleeping.” she mumbled. Rowan gave her a sympathetic look, and she frowned a little when she noticed that she wouldn’t meet her eye. “Are you sure that’s all it is?” she asked, “Because it looks like something’s troubling you.”
Blessing closed her eyes and pursed her lips. Nothing got past Rowan, she supposed. After a moment of silence, she relented.
“I guess I just feel bad about making you miss today’s match.” she replied. Rowan, being the amazing partner that she was, had cancelled the big boxing match she was supposed to be participating in to look after her. Blessing had said it was okay and she could look after herself, but it did little to dissuade her.
A sad frown crossed Rowan’s face.
”Aw, mi sol, you really feel bad about that?” she asked, tilting her head. She reached forward and pulls her into her chest.
“I really don’t mind, I promise. I wouldn’t have wanted to attend if you weren’t there to watch me.”
Blessing’s fingers curled around Rowan’s arms as she sighed again. “You’re not just saying that to make me feel better?” she asked, her voice small and tired. Rowan gave her a soft kiss on the top of her head.
“I never lie. Besides, we both know I would have won, so we’re not missing much.” she laughed to herself as she said this, and Blessing couldn’t help but allow a smile to creep across her lips.
“I love you, Blessing, and I love taking care of you. You deserve only the best.”
Blessing felt warmth bloom in her chest at her words. They were said with such conviction, such adoration, that there was no room for doubt. She pressed a kiss to her shoulder and melted into her hold.
“You know, I think I just fell in love with you all over again.” she smiled.
