you don't have to fucking think that hard about how transitioning works in historical or other non contemporary contexts unless it's fun for you. I once spent several hours AGONIZING over how someone would get top surgery in the seventies until I realised it really did not fucking matter and this was in a setting where incredible surgical feats were performed constantly and the man had fucking done surgery on himself once while surrounded by a bunch of feral dogs. it literally does not matter. do what makes you happy.
