FEEL BETTER SOON • LUCY DACUS • JULIEN BAKER
TW: throwing up (it’s very brief)
SUMMARY: when you wake up sick, your girlfriends are quick to take care of you.
A/N: I got this request MONTHS AGO. I’m so sorry I didn’t write it sooner! But here you go!
You woke up to that terrible feeling in your stomach. Your mouth was starting to water unpleasantly, and despite being lightheaded, you had to rush to the bathroom to throw up.
Meanwhile, one of your partners, Julien, was in the kitchen, drinking her first coffee of the day. She had just been standing by the back screen door, looking out at the yard and enjoying her coffee. When she heard you moving, it took a moment for her to process what was happening, but when she did, she came running, coffee forgotten.
You had only been in there for a minute, when there was knocking on the door.
“Babe?!” Julien said, sounding worried.
You couldn’t speak yet. You were trying to get your breath back.
“Babe? Can you hear me?!” Julien called.
You just reached over to open the door. She quickly pushed it all the way open, and took in the sight of you. You were kneeling by the toilet, shaking and sweating, your eyes watering.
“Fuck.” Julien said, moving over to you. “Were you just throwing up?”
“Uh-huh.” You mumbled.
“Oh, sweetheart…” She crouched down behind you. She pushed your hair out of your face, feeling your temperature at the same time. “You’re burning up.”
“I think I’m sick.” You said, voice rough and weak from the vomiting.
“Yeah, I’d assume so.” She sighed. “You think you’re done throwing up?”
You shook your head, your stomach still feeling bad. Julien kept your hair out of your face, her hands a little unsteady. Whenever there was even a slight problem with you, she worried.
“Don’t worry, I gotcha.” She whispered. “Here, sit in my lap…”
She gently pulled you back, so you were sitting right in her lap, your legs pulled close to your chest. It was much more comfortable than kneeling on the floor.
“I’m gonna text Luce…” She said softly, referring to the other girl in your relationship as she pulled her phone out of her pocket. “She’s grocery shopping. She can probably grab you some medicine or something. She’s better at playing nurse than I am…”
She sent Lucy a quick text, while you took deep breaths to hopefully settle your stomach. Julien put her phone back in her pocket, rubbing circles on your back with her other hand. The two of you sat there in silence for a few minutes, her rubbing your back anxiously, you forcing yourself to not vomit again.
“You okay?” Julien whispered nervously after a while.
“I think I’m done…” You sighed shakily.
“Okay, good.” She nodded. “How about we get you in the shower? You’re pretty sweaty, love…”
You agreed, so she stood and got the shower going. She didn’t want you to stand when you didn’t need to. Once the water was warm, she helped you up, and stripped off your sweaty clothes. You got in the shower, and she waited right outside the curtain in case you needed her.
By the time you were done, and Julien had wrapped a towel around you, Lucy was home, and she was rushing to the bedroom.
“Hello?” She called, knocking on the bathroom door.
“Oops, sorry, Luce.” Julien said, opening the door.
Lucy was standing on the other side, looking worried. You were quickly passed from Julien to Lucy, who embraced you tightly.
“Hi, honey…” She whispered soothingly. “I got you some medicine. It should help. I could make you some tea?”
“Tea would be good.” You agreed quietly.
“Okay,” Lucy nodded. “Let’s get you in bed first.”
Together, they got you into comfy, breathable clothing, and you slipped back in bed. The sheets felt cold, especially since you’d just been under the hot water from the shower. Julien quickly put a few extra blankets on the bed, trying to warm you up. Lucy dashed off to make you some tea. They were moving quickly, as if you’d break in half if you weren’t taken care of soon.
“Just rest.” Julien told you. “We’ll take care of everything today, okay?”
“Alright.” You mutter.
Normally, you’d protest, convinced you could do all your chores and what not. That day, you felt too shitty.
Lucy came back a few minutes later with a mug of hot tea, and the two of them settled on either side of you. Lucy had an arm around you, letting you rest against her, while Julien had a hand on your thigh, a silent reminder that she was there.
“Are you ready for the medicine?” Lucy questioned.
“I don’t think so…” You shook your head, still feeling pretty queasy.
“That’s okay.” Julien gave you a reassuring smile. “We’ll wait. We don’t want you throwing up more.”
“What do you want to do?” Lucy asked as she ran her fingers through your hair. “Watch a movie? Read? Sleep?”
“Maybe a movie…” You said.
“We can watch whatever you want.” Julien added. “Even if it’s some silly rom-com…”
For the rest of the day, and a little bit of the next, the two of them took good care of you, making sure you stayed hydrated, keeping you cool, or warm, holding your hair back if you vomited again, and eventually giving you medicine when you were ready. You recovered extra fast because of their help. You couldn’t have asked for better partners.
