Jason wasn’t the one to be crowned king when the death of his father occurred. He was hardly a true prince, though King Wayne would swear by him as much as his true born son. That was the only reason he had his marriage arranged, a rather advantageous one at that. When there were no male heirs in a family, a family either died out or surrendered their name. That was where Jason was planned to come in, his betrothed a woman he had only met once before at a very young age. Stephanie Brown, he saw, had grown to be a beautiful woman.
“A word?” he asked softly as their fathers spoke, going over their decided agreement– probably deciding on details Jason and Stephanie would have no say in. Where they would stay until they overtook the kingdom, if they would be under the Wayne or the Brown name… He’d rather have a private moment to speak with her.
Stephanie wasn’t blind to the reason she had been brought to the castle with her father. She had known for a while now about her betrothal to Jason, even if her father pretended not to know what she was talking about. Any girl would’ve been pleased to marry a Wayne, but not her. She never cared about the status, only the thought of finding love and happiness. But she had known Jason since she was a child, she was a little nervous to become reacquainted with him.
Hearing the man speak she looked over and nodded. “Of course, my prince.” Anything to get her out of this awkward meeting between their fathers. Stephanie stood up and curtsied to their parents before she trailed behind the man. Her eyes observed him, noting the changes since their youth. He was far taller than she expected but still just as handsome. “What did you want to speak about?” She asked softly, looking into his eyes.
