Nyota asking Jaylah is she knows any of her home language, and smiling when Jaylah starts to speak to her in it. Laying her head down on Jaylah's lap and just listening to the language while Jaylah reads a story to her in it (translating it from English to her language) Nyota remembering a few words and typing them into the Starfleet database in an attempt to find the language. She finds records and starts learning the language to add onto the MULTIPUL other ones she knows, but this one has meaning. This one gives her a chance to speak to Jaylah in a language that she’s familure with and that they can talk to each other in in front of friends without the others knowing what they’re saying. Nyota sitting at dinner one night with Jaylah after having ordered food, and turning to face her with a large grin. When Jaylah ask’s what’s up, Nyota responds in her home language saying “I just can’t stop looking at your beauty.” At first Jaylah is confused. How did Nyota learn that sentence? But when Nyota continued to speak she slowly brings a hand over her mouth and tries to hold back the tears. Since joining Starfleet she has met people from her home planet, but they usually speak in English unless they’re alone studying or just hanging out, and hearing those familure words from Nyota makes her ridiculously happy.
