At current, Jaydin had been going through some old photo albums – some given to her from her family, and others that were more recently bought that contained Maéva and Frea’s baby photos, as well as recent family photos of the entire Byrd family. When Caz had spoken up, the Ghost-Specialist had peered over to the pile of ripped photos that had yet to find their way to a trash receptacle.
“Photos from Ecruteak…” Jaydin replied before quickly adding: “n-not that I hate Ecruteak. I actually love it there and have pictures of the city itself, and me with my teachers and classmates.
“What I meant was that they’re specifically photos from when I had… met someone…? Nothing in terms of dating – we were just friends for a while….
“Our friendship quickly ended when he kissed me when I didn’t want it. The photos just ended up in my possession since my grandmother passed away last year, and I left a lot of things at her house before I left for the Ultimate Battle Frontier back in Sinnoh.”

Walking through the woods was generally a calming thing for Jaydin on the occasions where she could actually enjoy it. This night, however, she had been out for a different reason. There was a stern look on her face as she pushed aside low hanging branches, and made her way through the lightly foggy forest that had been a decent enough travel away from Arimethea City.
Dusk had almost been over, and night was starting to truly settle upon the region. Fortunately for Jaydin, however, she had normally been pretty well off in the dark – especially when Trépas could be her eyes.
Taking pause in her step, Jaydin had held up a hand to bring a halt to the company she kept. There was something that felt off… yet familiar to a degree. However, it seemed a bit too faint to really make any definitive say this way or another just yet.
Looking about, the brunette had looked for something that seemed different in the setting around her. The night time made it a little difficult for her eyes in the sense of actually seeing silhouettes and making out anything. However, when it came to auras, what Jaydin saw was not something she could turn off whenever.
At this point in her life, the woman had already come to terms with seeing things differently.
“Mrs. Byrd?” came a voice a few feet from behind Jaydin.
Turning her head to look, Jaydin had looked to Chris – a young man that had been in the Competition in Hyperion. There were a couple things that immediately sprang to mind, though the words that came out were, “Chris, what are you doing outside the city walls this late? The competition events and rounds usually take place within days of one another.”
“Oh… uh… I guess I just needed some fresh air for myself. Sometimes things over there get a little… much. A lot of the other Competitors, well, they’re… they’re something alright. N-not bad, or anything! A lot of them are just a bit much for me in a short amount of time,” Chris explained, giving a half-amused scoff.
“Yes… with Competitors I’ve seen over the years, I can see how they would wear you out…” Jaydin replied, offering a warm, understanding smile with a half apologetic expression.
“But why are you out here, Mrs. Byrd? With the events taking place, I figure you would also be in the city to get some sleep before anything big,” Chris pointed out before glancing about the forest.
For a moment, Jaydin’s smile had lessened as she drew her hands together.
“I had gotten word from some… friends… that there is discontent out here. Something about the Phantump and Trevenant not being happy. I came out here to investigate why that might be, but it might take longer than I personally care for,” Jaydin replied, finding no reason to really hide why she was out here.
“However…” Jaydin started to say, “I admit that finding my way back might be a bit of a chore. Though I’m sure Trépas can lead the way back after getting an aerial view above the trees.”
Chris seemed a little surprised by what was said, and a slightly amused smile formed before he quickly composed himself.
“Well, I never expected to hear you admit that you’re lost, but it’s a little refreshing to know that even the two ‘big bads’ of the Hyperion Conference get caught up in certain things,” Chris chuckled.
“’Big bads’? Is that what Competitors are calling us these days? We might have to show them how bad we can really be,” Jaydin replied teasingly. Starting to walk, the brunette motioned for Chris to follow along.
“Well, if we continue to stay out here any longer, we might not get back to the Apollo Hotel till midnight or later. This certainly wasn’t the shortest trip,” Jaydin went ahead to say. “Luckily, if we start back now, we might get back to where we should be before ten or eleven.”
