Being from the Northern Continent, Elsje is used to the lonely cold. She's also not the best at expressing emotions and her demeanor can come off as cold. She wants to reach out though, to make sure Jazker always know how much she cares- even if he already does.

I brought you daffodils in a pretty string

but they won't flower like they did last spring

She's a florist now, nine years after killing Jazker. I imagine this line a lot of ways. Her bringing flowers to his grave, her giving him flowers as a revenant or newly resurrected... but they won't flower like they did last spring, nine years ago, when they were alive and together.

And I wanna kiss you, make you feel alright

I'm just so tired to share my nights

She wants to fix things. She wants to make Jazker happy- to restore the life and vitality she took from him. She's been sleeping alone for so long, every night wishing he was there.

I wanna cry and I wanna love

but all my tears have been used up

on another love, another love

That 'Another Love' was him, them, from the past. She cried, and grieved, and moved on as best she could. The grief never fully went away, but she recovered from his death. And now here he is again, back and undead.

And if somebody hurts you, I wanna fight

but my hand's been broken one too many times

So I'll use my voice, I'll be so fucking rude

Words, they always win, but I know I'll lose

She wants to protect him. To keep him from being hurt or cut open by anyone else ever again. But she's old, she's tired. There's only so much she can protect him without hurting herself in the process. She's fought for decades, and a good chunk of that fighting included things she never wants to do again. She wants peace, and to be able to do things without casualty. She wants to use her words, but she's never been good at finding the right ones. They get all tangled up- she's not smart with words like Jazker was. She's brutally honest, she doesn't know how to say things the right way, the way that will make them understand.

And I'd sing a song that'd be just ours

but I sang them all to another heart

And I wanna cry, I wanna learn to love

but all my tears have been used up

They both want to learn how to love properly, Jazker was always taught that love was manipulation, but Elsje is so honest, so genuinely incapable of manipulation. How could he do anything but fall in love with her? There's so many tears to cry over each other, and they both wanna learn to love.

But the army has drained those tears from them- from Elsje at the very least. She can't lead as their captain if she's weak, if she cries.
