One

He had only been there a week or so, still barely sleeping, but his appetite was returning slowly. They were in the kitchen, Micah cooking as Jax sat at the table, petting one of the dogs who had decided to use his knee for a pillow and he felt a flutter. A small sense of something warm, but he pushed it down.

Two

He had actually managed to fall asleep for longer than forty-minutes, but it was a restless sleep, plagued with nightmares and he didn’t know he was whimpering in his sleep. Next thing he knew, there were arms around him and a soothing murmur of words he couldn’t quite make out. When he woke, Micah was curled up with him and his heart skipped a beat.

Three

Jax knew he would have to come clean eventually, tell Micah what he was, but he was too frightened. So he slipped away every full moon, disappeared for a few days. He always came home ragged, deep, purple bags under his eyes. He looked like a relapsed junkie, but Micah still let him back in. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt like he had a home.

Four

It was far too close to the full moon and he was moody, unable to control his eye color and his bones ached. He shoulder have headed out two days ago, but he hated to be away from Micah. Of course, he pushed his luck and the truth spilled out, but still Micah wanted him. After all, he liked dogs and what was one more to the mix?

Five

He had been nervous for a week, all the odd jobs he had done around town finally paid off and he had the ring secure in his pocket. Sure, he wasn’t the best of cooks, but he was good enough with meat. He had candles lit, dozens of flickering flames lighting the room as he got down on one knee, and asked the question he hoped like hell Micah said yes to.
