#java nebula

I still wanted to keep an eye on her, so when Mom had an after-work nap, I stole Java and brought her down to my place

She's been down here before, but generally only very briefly before getting nervous or being chased away by territorial Tiny Tim

Now that she knew what it was (after last night's dose) she fought me like a demon. I have a big scratch on my chest where she like, wall-jumped off of me.

And I told her - this is exactly why I have to give you this medicine! If you didn't fight so hard against any and all medical intervention or examination I wouldn't have to drug you!

I don't think she understood or cared

So i've been monitoring Java almost constantly since her surgery, right? And i figure i can leave for an hour or two today to do some damn grocery shopping right?

But mom texted and asked me to come upstairs to put Java's cone back on for the night since it's been off all day. I come up and ask 'Where's Java?'

'Oh, she's upstairs in the guest room.'

....

She's upstairs. Unsupervised. With no cone or onesie on or ANYTHING to protect her incision site?!?!?!?

When she was sick, she hissed and snapped at me when I tried to pick her up or move her, but today I scooped her up with one hand under her chest and she just hung there like that one gif of the guy gesturing while holding a ferret

Then when I put her on the couch beside me, she stayed and wanted pats and snuggles and especially scritches

I'm so glad she is both feeling better physically and seems to have forgiven me for taking her to the emergency vet and also medicating her for several days

But then today we had friends over, and as we were hanging out, a loud cat scream echoed from upstairs and I was like, "Ah. That's the sound of Java getting in Pekoe's space."

Pekoe screamed again. So I went upstairs to find Pekoe on bro Duck's bed, in full pissed-off-defensive mode, with Java sitting on the other side of the bed just staring at her. No signs of violence, just... staring. Being in the same bed. Pekoe says this is illegal. This is unacceptable!

So I had to shoo Java away, back to the guest room where I could lock her in for a bit

I was disappointed because, man, for a couple days there I thought they were finally learning to coexist. Java has lived at Mom & Duck's for over 3 months! They should be able to be left alone unattended together but no! Still!!!

Later this evening, after our guests had gone home and we'd had dinner and such, Duck and I were upstairs in the media room playing different video games and chatting until like midnight. Finally I wrapped up my game and was gonna head home, so I went looking for Java to say goodnight (Duck had opened the guest room some time ago at that point)

Java was not in the guest room. Huh. Maybe she went to the main floor to see mom

But I saw Pekoe's eyes shining in the dark from Duck's room, so I stopped in to check on her. She was much more relaxed than earlier - she let me pet her and everything. While I was chatting to Pekoe, I saw movement out of the corner of my eye

Java was also in Duck's room! Seems like she had been napping in his computer chair.

And Pekoe had been chilling on his bed.

They'd been alone in his room chilling together unsupervised (several feet apart on different pieces of furniture) for what may have been hours and totally not killing each other. Pekoe was even relaxed enough to be cuddly with me when I popped in

Could it be

Are they actually getting used to each other!?! Are they actually gonna be able to coexist mostly peacefully?

God I hope so

And then. She had the biggest poop. And she's fine now

She just ate a bit of wet food and is chillin and seems to be keeping it down
