EVALUATION OF INDIGENOUS PLANT EXTRACTS AGAINST JASSID, Amrasca bigutulla bigutulla I. (CICADELLIDAE: HOMOPTERA) ON OKRA | UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY
Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) is a Malvaceae family herbaceous annual plant farmed for its delicious seed pods as a vegetable crop. By sucking plant sap and inhibiting photosynthesis through leaf curling, Amrasca bigutulla bigutulla I. causes substantial economic losses. Plant extracts have broad-spectrum insecticidal capabilities against soft-bodied insects, therefore they could be employed instead of synthetic insecticides. Nicotiana tabacum, Azadirachta indica, Acacacia nilotica, Citrus aurantiun, and Cassia fistula were used in the study to see how effective they were. The measurements were taken on the first, third, fifth, and seventh days after application. After 24 hours, the percent control ranged from 0 to 72.50 percent in all treatments. Similarly, fatality rates after the third day of treatment ranged from 25 to 75.35 percent. Except for Azadirachta indica, all treatments showed a decrease in jassid mortality after the fifth and seventh days of administration. Finally, the botanicals offered up to 70% jassid control, which was substantially greater than expected, and might be used in a jassid Integrated Pest Management programme.
