4. Secret/Scream
The night elf walked toward the cottage with her papers in hand. They needed to be signed and the Rat King wasnât available. There was something unnerving about her going to the cottage. While she respected the Queen, she couldnât help but recall the many times the King claimed her over and over. Sarinna shook her head and knocked on the door.
The nanny, Loli, opened the door and simply let Sarinna in. She knew better than to deny the Kingâs Right Hand. Sarinna didnât speak to her but rather walked straight to the bedroom. She knocked and cracked the door open. She saw the King and Queen on their bed playing with the twins. The King held his son in his arms and lifted him over him. Both the child and the King were laughing and Sarinna was instantly reminded why she was uncomfortable being there: her secret.
For a moment, all Sarinna could see was the King lifting a little boy with light blue skin and lilac hair. His son. Her son. How old was he now? She hadnât seen him a small while, but when she was away from him so long, she started to lose track. However, the King had never met his son. He had never met Jarieth. Oh, how she wanted to tell him. How would he react? She could take his hits and abuse, but would he hurt their son? That she wouldnât allow, and neither would his adoptive mother. And the Queen? What would she say if she finally announced that the King had an older son? The true heir to the Kingdom, aside from his oldest daughter. It was too overwhelming the night elf and she simply wanted to scream it all out. So what if he did beat her to death. She would rather die, wouldnât she? She had been telling herself that for years, but she still stood there with the Kingâs paperwork.
âWhat is it, Sarinna?â The Queenâs voice broke her trance and she blinked, looking at the royal family.Â
âThe King needs to sign this.â She walked into the room, walking toward the bed. The children looked up at her and the little boy reached out for Sarinna to hold him. The King passed him over while he grabbed the paperwork. The little boy hugged the night elf and Sarinna smiled warmly, holding him tightly. She glanced at the Queenâs envious eyes and she gently pulled the child back. Once the King was done signing, they exchanged once more.
While Sarinna examined the papers, the Queen sighed, âIf youâre done, you can leave.â Sarinna looked at the Queen and the children, who were already climbing over their father. The night elf bowed and turned, taking one more glance back before she closed the door. She saw the four of them laughing and Sarinna sighed, walking away.Â
