For Jareth: ❛ how can i help ? ❜

It was his face that had drawn her in, wasn’t it? Working the late shifts in the hospital had left his permanent mark on him. And although Jareth would forever claim he did not mind, the circles under his eyes, their bloodshot whites and his having remained static, staring into space for what felt like forever, were not something you’d normally do if everything was fine with you.
But it didn’t matter. Unless she insisted very firmly, he could hold his ground. He needed to keep himself together until, at least, a late-night dinner was acquired. At the moment he felt hungrier for human food than for their blood, as per usual, so if she found the idea of grabbing some dinner good, the better for him.
“Um... I’m just...” His stomach gave a loud growl, louder than anything the girl would have heard from another body, and Jareth lifted his hand to press against it, grimacing with embarrassment. “Starving. I’ve not had food in hours. Way too long day at work.” Though she was a stranger, his tone was almost apologetic, like she was an old friend worried about him. “Do you want to go and look for something to eat? I know it’s late, but... I’ve found late evening walks very peaceful.”
She was a stranger, granted, and him offering to stick with her could be considered odd. Still, it wasn’t like he had the strength or the mind to get down to any mischief. There was something about this girl that told him she wasn’t ordinary, either. Maybe he could get to hear more about her, like where she came from. Probably a strange yet whimsical place... Or maybe his mind was already showing him the stuff of dreams. Who knew.
