So it was either Suica or Pasmo, but I had already pre-decided on Suica. Their logos are way too cute, and that green is the best. Personal biases. >< There doesn't seem to be any difference between the two, though, just two separate companies doing the same thing. Nonetheless, so far it's been relatively seamless. Once we got out of the airport terminal, we found a stationing area, converted some currency (In USD, approximately $1 fee for every $100 withdrawn - super surpised, sure it would have been so much more if we did this in the US), insterted the Yen into the Ticket machine with Suica selected, card popped out, and all good. Cards are $5 to rent, and if you still have a balance leftover when you leave, you just reinsert the card and get your cash back. Apparently they take 10 years to expire, according to their website. Simple and easy. For those who don't know, Suica and Pasmo are basically refillable debit cards. You pull debit from an ATM if necessary, put cash down on it and it's as easy as tapping it at rail entrances, grocery stores, vending machines, etc. Heck, because it's tap and not chip or swipe, it's actually easier and faster!! To test it out before boarding our first line, we gave it a try and one of the zillions of vending machines all over the area. Worked seamlessly, of course, and might I say, this is probably the best Strawberry Chocolate I have ever had in my life.
