Thanks for what you did say, at least. But I'm from Orlando. So I know about tourists. But I'll keep asking around.
I mean I feel bad not giving you more because you seem very nice and understanding. There are a lot of places you can go like all of the museums and galleries in the city but like there are tons of places that are out of the way and like really local only places and I don't want to deal with tourists at them.
Like you get people that read about some of those places on some blog about "hidden gems of Chicago" and they show up and literally complain the entire time about everything. I was at a bar by DePaul with some friends and this group of like 6 random fucking tourists decide they're going to split our booth by which I mean they literally try to shove us out of our booth and then refuse to leave when they realize we won't fucking move and then they spend the entire time complaining about how there's too many students at a bar literally a block off of a school campus. What the fuck is your logic there?
Like guys if you're visiting a big city and people are being rude to you understand it's not personal it's because they've dealt with thousands of people just like you and almost without exception every one of those encounters was fucking tedious bullshit where they've expected us to help them with the dumbest shit. I've had people ask me to pay for their train ride because they couldn't be bothered to figure out how the ticket system works here. I've had people try to stop me on my bike while I'm clearly trying to get somewhere so that they can ask me to take a picture of them in front of a fucking Starbucks. I've I've literally had people ask me for directions to the Sears tower while we were standing directly in front of the fucking Sears tower.
I'm going to Chicago really soon. What should I do? I've never been.
This is tough because like there are a lot of places I could recommend but I kinda hate tourists and don't want them to go to these places so I can enjoy them without dealing with some random asshole from Nebraska who thinks it's my job to explain shit for him. Like nothing against you I just have literally never had a positive interaction with a tourist.
I mean I recommend going to something at Second City they're always amazing. The Shedd is amazing and I fucking love it there. Go to a Hawks game and scream your fucking head off during the national anthem, and definitely grab some Potbelly while you're here.
And go to Murphy's Red Hots at Belmont and Racine. Order a footlong red hot, Chicago style, cheese fries, and a shake. Don't ask for ketchup.
