10, 26, 29 for weird writer asks?
10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?
My own writing haunts me constantly. Like bitch why aren't you working on me. The piece of writing that has haunted me the most since I read it when it came out is this Pulitzer Prize-winning article from the Washington Post about children getting forgotten in hot cars. Don't read it unless you are also okay with it haunting you forever. But it's a really good article.
26. How do you get into your character’s head? How do you get out? Do you ever regret going in there in the first place?
Usually by writing a looooot about them. For original characters I usually have to write myself into their character over many thousands of words.
Other people's characters tend to just pop into my head a lot more readily and I mostly just operate on vibes.
29. Where do you draw your inspiration? What do you do when the inspiration well runs dry?
For fic, I am mostly inspired by canon and meta and fanart as well as like, poetry and music and all the usual things you see that remind you of your blorbo. As long as I am still feeling excited by a canon/characters, the well rarely runs dry.
For original fiction, I'm inspired by all kinds of things, but when I lack inspiration I get it back by reading other fiction, or watching movies or seeing visual art. But mostly reading.
